As part of its advocacy on health and education, IGFI ensures elementary students from its partner-schools have access to safe drinking water. Clean drinking water is vital in maintaining the students’ good health so they can attend and participate actively in class.
For the first half of 2019, IGFI spearheaded the installation of three-stage water filters in four partner schools namely Santiago Elementary School in Sto. Tomas Batangas, San Pedro I and II Elementary Schools in Malvar, Batangas, as well as in Upper Carmen Elementary School in Cagayan de Oro. A total of 3,322 students (1,588 from Sto. Tomas, 705 from Malvar and 1,029 from Cagayan de Oro) are expected to benefit from the project. Students no longer need to buy bottled water, thus, they will be able to save the money for other school needs.
As part of the maintenance program, the school management together with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) have agreed to regularly clean the installed water filters.
